Casey James ConcertCASEY JAMES Thursday, February 7, 2013 @ Exit/In in Nashville, TN Written by: Jeff KurtisStanding in the shadows of the phenomena that is America Idol is no easy task for most any artist coming off of the show. As the past has dictated, it really does usually take some time to develop your music and image after the show ends and break out into your own thing and not just be the person from the show in the public’s eyes. However, there are some artists that have been able to quickly put all of that stuff behind them a bit and form their own path and third-place finalist of the ninth season of the show Casey James has become one of them. The Fort Worth, Texas native inked his deal with Sony Music Nashville in 2010 and although his debut single “Let’s Don’t Call It A Night” did very well, it wasn’t until this past year that he really broke out in a big big way with the release of his self-titled debut album in early 2012 and the album’s second single “Crying On A Suitcase,” he became a household name amongst country music fans. With tours on his resume that include opening for Sugarland and Alan Jackson, playing parties at events like the ACM’s, and playing in front of massive crowds at CMA Fest, Casey James has proven that he has more than reached a comfort level on stage and that he brings a little something extra to his shows that is unmatched by the crop of other young artists as he showed with his performance at Nashville’s Exit/In. In front of a very packed venue, James took to the stage opening with “The Good Life” and as he and the band extended the outro of the song into a bit of a jam session it became quite obvious very quickly that James and his band had the musical chops that so many had already been raving about. From here he rolled through a set balancing between the many faces of Casey James. Carefully maintaining the instrumentation end of things throughout the set, James and his band were more than happy to show off their musical side of things throughout the night balancing between a rock and a blues feel with a dash of country mixed in . Songs like “Drive” however allowed him to present a boot stomping country feel while “She’s Money” kept the up-tempo side of things well intact and kept the crowd moving along. On the other end of the spectrum, James allowed his more sexy side to come out as well and showed the crowd just why it was that the majority of the audience was female as he slowed things down and got them screaming along with his single “Let’s Don’t Call It A Night” and a new song from the album he has been working on called “A Woman’s Touch.” Round it all out with his current mainstream hit “Cryin’ On A Suitcase,” and with his 45 minute set Casey James did more than an impress the crowd, he proved to the usually tough to please Nashville crowd that he was the real deal and absolutely one to keep your eye on. www.todayscountrymag.com/caseyjamesconcert.htm
