For some reason I could have sworn Casey one said he had 27 guitars. Or are these just the ones he uses?

So, as it stands we have six lost guitars and some potential new adoptees who aren't out yet. I intend to stay vigilant. It's important that each one of these babies have their moment in the sun. And names, darn it. How are they gonna get to guitar heaven if they don't have names?! Maybe the shirts should have a thread of their own. It'd be shorter, but the images could take up the extra space. Compare and contrast essays with accompanying visual aids. You know. Highbrow sort of stuff.

Okay I might have stumbled across something interesting. With regards to Casey's guitars. From the first I heard Casey play that McPherson acoustic guitar the look of the guitar with it's off set hole was really interesting to me. Also the guitar had a noticeably good sound to my ears, you can hear it especially at that acoustic gig Casey did in Indiana. So I decided to read up a bit about the guitar. The McPherson factory hasn't been making guitars for that long they are a relatively new brand, the owner started out by making archery equipment and bows. They are leaders in the field of archery. So the result is they employ a lot of new technologies on their guitars that other more traditional builders might not think of as traditional. They also hold a few patents on guitar making techniques. But apparently these guitars are really very well made, and by all accounts made like tanks, they dont have any structural issues because they are reinforced by carbon fiber rods, and their necks never need adjusting. They have a unique sound. They are known for their loudness, resonance, richness, and the way it can sustain notes. Because of the cantilevered neck design they sound equally sweet and strong at any volume level. It is apparently a good guitar to use on stage or plugged in, and apparently they play like an electric guitar and they are very heavy. It seems like electric guitar players generally seems to like this guitar, as it is a very playable guitar with the neck design and very consistant. Good for someone who plays with a light touch. But at the same time it also seems like a bit of a controversial guitar, while some people love them other people dont believe they are worth their price tag. They are very expensive high end guitars, prices range from $5000 to $7800, and they are not easily available. A lot of people dont see these guitars as traditional enough and because the builder was previous into making bows some people dont see them as worthy compared to other custom made boutique acoustic guitars in the same price range or even lower price range. People who only plays acoustic guitars seems to either love the guitar or snarl at it. There is a lot of divided opinions. Publicly they have a no endorsement policy, which is apparently often the case with the small guitar builders. But often these guitar builders are often known to "loan out" their guitars to prominent people in the music industry. Basically they often have deals with guitarist but dont always like to advertise it openly. Which is understandable seeing as they wouldn't want to explain to every would be guitarist why they are not going to endorse them. Anyways finally coming to the more interesting part that concerns Casey, I have a very, very strong suspicion that they might have recently started to endorse Casey. Why? Casey has suddenly been playing this guitar at all of his gigs, and it is the only acoustic he has been playing of late. Other then that they actually have a few country artist on their official roster, the best known being Brad Paisley. It is an open secret that they endorse a lot guitar players, who doesn't appear on their offical artist roster. However the thing that really sealed this suspicion in my book, was the fact that I found Aaron Kelly and Tim Urban on their official artist roster. It makes it a bit obvious for me that Casey might very well have received this guitar from them. I mean if you are going to give away free guitars who would you rather have potential costumers see playing your guitar, Casey, Aaron or Tim? That question is obviously rhetorical. Go and check out their artist roster: mcphersonguitars.com/So the question is why doesn't Casey appear on the official roster? My guess is being a very accomplished guitarist, Casey is picky about guitars and he wants and needs different guitar sounds, and he properly doesn't want to tie himself down to one type of acoustic guitar too much. Other then that it seems like normal everyday guitarist sometimes resents the fact that stars can get so many guitars for free. It hasn't been such a long time ago that Casey himself was a normal guitarist, so perhaps with that consideration in mind he doesn't really want to be endorsing guitars. Although I think it properly has more to do with not being tied down to one guitar sound. Stars getting things for free is a very regular marketing strategy, so I think it is properly just a few loud people who might feel jealous, who expresses their resentment over the practice. Once I really got started reading up on the McPherson's the topic became really interesting to me. I have a strange love sometimes for technical details, many posters who knows me on here knows I love motorsport for example. I love it partly because of the very intricate technical details, it turns out guitars can also be very interesting. So after the McPherson, I started reading up on Casey's favorite guitar which is actually known as the 83 Revised Standard American Strat Dan Smith era guitar. It turns out it is actually a very controversial guitar much more controversial then the McPherson. Seems like Casey might have a great love for controversial guitars. ;D What I want to know is are anyone interested in more details about Casey's guitars? I love to get started and post more about the history and other info regarding Casey's favorite strat, but I dont want to bore anyone to tears (as I might already have been doing with this post). So should I proceed? Also I want to know if we can possibly get the specific year of the guitars for example on those Telecasters and the Hummingbird, it really makes a big difference in the guitar. That would be very helpful.

OMG! Boudica you're an amazing detective Great job & interesting info. On his Acoustic set at the LP Field , he played two different acoustic guitars : Breedlove & McPherson . ( both posted with pix on page 1 ) . Aww thanks! At the moment I am busy with the Hummingbird, which is difficult since they have been in production from 1963 -1984, there has been a lot of changes on the model during that time, for instance all of the 70's models are seen as crap. So it would be nice to know the actual year. I am interested in that Breedlove, from what I have seen from reading up on the McPherson, is that they are also known as boutique guitars. The McPherson thing was interesting because of the endorsement thing, and we were just discussing endorsements the other day. It seems like well known guitarist can get quite a lot of guitars for free. It turns out even just locally/ regionally known guitarists can get a guitar for free every two weeks to a month. Apparently guitar companies gives away a lot of guitars, it is a bit of an open secret in the music industry, although this practice might have lessened a bit with the recession and all. Which means Casey might have gotten a guitar or two before he even went on idol, or perhaps not. But he is properly getting them now!

I love the Hummingbird ! Casey played tha guitar during 2 of my fav. performances! You'll Think Of Me & Don't . Ah yes, funny thing about Don't, it lost interest with me very quickly. Part of the reason why I think that happened is because Casey did a different version on the show then on the tour and on the studio recording. I liked the original live performance on the show but never really got into the tour version. So I just quickly lost interest in it. But You'll think of me on the otherhand, is a performance that I really like and watch from time to time, that performance is very unappreciated I think.

So should I proceed? Also I want to know if we can possibly get the specific year of the guitars for example on those Telecasters and the Hummingbird, it really makes a big difference in the guitar. That would be very helpful. When Kellie Pickler did her radio tour all of her band members were playing McPhersons. I'm guessing they've "loaned" out a lot a lot a lot of guitars. That may be adding to the controversy. If you didn't get one, or if you thought you got one because you were special and then found out everyone and his brother got one, it might be a little aggravating. You know I'm right there with you as far as loving the technical details. (Especially the cantilevered neck -- I'm gonna have to revisit that website for more on that. I find it fascinating.) So as far as I'm concerned, keep it coming. I love it. As for loving controversial guitars, you may be on to something. Casey doesn't seem to be the sort of guy who's gonna let popular opinion dictate his choices, certainly not about the thing he loves the most. Plus, if something's controversial that probably means it differs from the norm which likely makes it more fun to "learn." Well, more fun for someone as talented as Casey. Probably a lot less fun for the rest. I think Casey's management is being pretty cagey about endorsement deals which may explain why he's not on McPherson's artist list. It wouldn't surprise me if there were a few guitar makers ready to endorse Casey. Of course, Casey sticking to one brand of guitar is almost inconceivable, so he may not be interested in endorsing anyone.
