The country market as far as males has been like that since I can remember. Rarely do you see a female country solo act break through. Woman seem to have a harder time develloping a sound and niche for themselves to stand out. Yes enjoy the ride. Casey is doing what he does naturally and thank god for that. Being the huge country fan I think since I love it so much he will fit right in and has gained cred with all the hitmakers he is writing with. Although the country market is (and may always have been) predominantly males, I have to disagree that its harder for females to "develop and sound and niche for themselves to stand out." There are too many talented female artists out there now that contradicts that statement, and that is in most all sub-genres of country. It may be more of a cultural phenomenon in effect like a "good ole boys club" mentality or something else, but not for lack of talent or musical identity.

I dont know. I was kind of excluding groups like the band perry and lady a. Maybe its because I tend to like male voices more. The woman in country music all seem the same to to me. There is one named sunny sweeny and she is a little bit different. You have Carrie with the sas and the big and outrageous voice. Taylor who is the songwriter type and has made her living on writing personal stuff both kind of carved out their niche. Ashton shepard had a awesome song called look it up and either the label stopped promoting it or something because it was a great song and it just fell off the chart. You had Gretchan Wilson who really came in at a time when all the pop like faith Hill was popular but she kind of fizzled out. If you look at say the top 30 you are lucky to find 2 or 3 solo woman. It is so hard for them
Oh I have to say one thing I heard Blake Sheltons new song today and I did not even recognize his voice or sound. I was shocked because I can always tell who it is even when I hear it for the first time. He is abandoning all his beer drinking drunk songs for a lot of senntimental stuff. It was a great song but I couldnt believe that was a Blake song.

Agree, both Carrie and Taylor lack musical identities per se. To me their stuff is like country pop - ha! (new genre) But, if you look at the bands or those sisters who sing bluegrass, their names escape me, they are hugely talented.

^^^Agree, at the height of Dolly Parton's career, there were quite a few female artists includikng Reba McIntyre. The numbers have dwindled...

I dont think Taylor or Carrie lack a musical identity. Thats why they have been so successful. Taylors songs are like her diary put to music. She doesnt have a big voice but more a stylist and is different. Carrie with all the sas can do so much with a song because her voice is so amazing and getting started with idol only helped her.
Ashton shepards label has made a huge mistake with ehr. She is pregneant with a baby due this fall but yet they are going to go ahead and release her cd and second single. When she told them she was having her second child why didnt they put her album off for a few months after the baby was born. She has a good niche but mca sucks except for Josh Turneer.

Anyone heard the latest news ?! there won't be Jive anymore !!!!!!! the high profile artists like Britney , Pink , Usher ..... etc. will be moved to either RCA or the new Epic Label Group . and for the rest , no body knows , most likely will be lost in the shuffle like some including some idols .

It just goes to show you you have to make something happen while you can because you never know what is going to happen in the future. Because you must have something in your pocket if your label folds to take to another label.

Chris Young is an amzing story for an artist development . Simply his first album was a big flop with sales & his singles on radio . but that didn't make his label RCA / Sony Nashville to stop with him ! they released his second album , which sold ~25k the first week & produced 3 songs went to #1 ( 2 singles & the third one is simply a release of a previous single from the first album which was a flop on radio , yet it went for #1 too ) , as for this week that second album sold around 400k , which is pretty good . His third album released this week & projected to sell ~75k ( triple the amount of his 2nd album' first week numbers ) & the lead single is now top5 & most likely is going to #2 if not #1 with this logjam . he now , has an identity & a core fanbase . he is now in a new level & positioned himslef well in the market . BTW , some songwriters who wrked with him also wrked with Casey like Brett Beavers . ----------- Here is something COOL for this hot summer :

A little tidbitt about Chris Young you may not of known. He always posted his music and made a relationship with the fans on the nashville star message board before he went on nashville star. It was so obvious he was going to win.
The thing about chris is he was only 20 when he won so they had more time to be patient with him. His first single was awesome and would be a number one if he released now insted of when he was just starting. I will see if I can find the video.

He was also from outside of nashville and had already written with big songwriters even at the young age.

I have been thinking about downloading both Blakes and Chris's new albums but havent yet. I just love tomorrow. Chris has such a rich baritone and he is one of the best at emoting when he sings.

Last night I watched the Miranda Lamber behind the music I had recorded. If you can find it online it is worth a watch. Here are A couple highlights that were so interesting. Her record to to years from that point to come out.
When Miranda came in third on nashville star and was offered her record deal she says I hope you arent planning on making me a pop xountry princess because if you are I am not interrsted. They told her that we will leve you alone to make you record and we will leave you alone to do your thing.
Second thing I have alot of respect for her and Blake after seeing this. Miranda and Blake sang together on a cmt special and their was instant attraction. But Blake was married at the time. They were both like what do we do.They remained only friends even though they were falling for each other. Then Blakes marriage which was already on the rocks before he met miranda ended. Only then did it turn to romance.
