I definitely think that too private/guarded is part of the problem. Some of his best songs, like DMUMM or Show Me A Bridge, were about some aspect of his private life and IMYF is definitely about another relationship so he didn't record the first two and doesn't perform the third. I can appreciate the fact that he doesn't want to trade on his private life to make money, but that doesn't change the fact that a good show/good album has an emotional journey contained within which Casey is unwilling to make and therefore his shows/album don't provide the audience with an emotional catharsis, or even an emotional moment for the most part. And it doesn't help that he's been actively lying about his private life, the fans caught him, and he still put himself out there as a candidate for hottest country bachelor, or whatever it was. How insulting to the fanbase was that?! Any chance the DJs and music journalists who interviewed him felt the same way? Would you want to be the guy touting the contest between Casey and some other cutie for hottest bachelor when you know Casey's married? Expecting people to lie for you isn't gonna generate much more goodwill than blatantly lying to their faces. Being true to oneself as an artist does start with true. /rant But none of that would have mattered at this point if he'd just put out something with a stronger hook, and I agree that he did have better choices it that regard even among the newer music. It also would have helped if he had been able to put something out quickly during/after the Taylor Swift tour. Her fans are nothing if not loyal and if he could have snagged even a small fraction of them, that would have more than doubled his sales. Crazy not to try. I'm thinking Drive was available. Just sayin'. And yeah, I'm getting pretty tired of the bro country excuse. It doesn't have to be bro country to have a strong hook, and it doesn't have to be about the artists personal life to have a strong emotional impact. Whitney Houston had big hits with The Star Spangled Banner and Yes, Jesus Loves Me for crying out loud. Nor does a song have to be country radio friendly to be on a country cd. Check out Miranda Lambert's Miss Ohio; it's reason enough to buy the cd all by itself. Country radio gets it wrong a lot. A lot a lot. But if all you're doing is playing it safe, it's not fair to complain that all they're doing is playing it safe. At least they're making money. Okay, maybe this is where my rant ends. Who says Casey doesn't provide an emotional catharsis? Oh, wait, that was me. Nevermind. "Show Me a Bridge" OMG!!!!! How could this song have slipped my mind??? He only played that song once and luckily I have an mp3 of it. It is a masterpiece. I always felt like that song belonged right after DMUMM on the first CD. I just got goosebumps just now being reminded of that song. Those two songs, Drive, MYF and even COAS, WT and Breaking Through the Blue. He has had some amazing material.

The one thing is material has to have emotion but not be so deep that it takes the listener a ton of listens to figure out what the song is about. Girl crush is a great example. Also another one is homeboy by Eric church. At the end of the song on first listen I am like what a cool way to present a song.

COAS was actually a great song. It had a cool drum beat and was a great sing a long song with a great hook. It should of been number one and it would of sold gold if it hadn't been pulled to soon.i still love to play it.

I'm pretty sure Sony had total choice in which singles were released. Sony definitely takes the blame for the radio edit of TGL and for not releasing Drive. But Casey chose what to record and what made the album. And we saw the Gary Overton quote about lying about one's private life... I never saw that Gary Overton quote Can you post it. I can't find it right now, but it came just after the news about Casey's marriage. I think it was in some magazine -- Country Weekly? -- and it was all over my facebook feed, basically some people refuting the contention of other people that Sony was making Casey pretend to be a bachelor. Overton essentially said that the fans usually find out and become angry so he didn't recommend lying to them.

I'll never understand the difference between how they handled COAS and FA.

It's sad but it doesn't really make me angry anymore. I went through some pretty bad stuff in early 2014 where I really have put things into perspective. Yes I still care but it doesn't upset me anymore.

What now? I guess mostly everyone here thinks he gets dropped. I think there is a chance at another single, but only if they feel they have something they can really get behind. IMO, that does not include any of the songs we have already heard. Last time he kept COAS under his hat. Maybe he has another one of those he's recorded this time???

I really don't want to comment about the situation because don't have much to add to what you all said here.
COAS was fantastic and I also still enjoy hearing it, SONY missed a big opportunity with it and they're to blame and they are to blame about not releasing Drive after.
Now it's 50/50 , either dropped or release another one.

I thought there was possibly an error with no leaders yesterday. They are back today but only 8 of them. He will be off the Billboard Chart come Monday as he already fell from 52 to 56 this past Monday. I REALLY hope they try with another single!

From Windmills (who probably isn't following as closely as us, but is extremely knowledgeable nonetheless)..... Windmills Country @windmillsmusic · 24m24 minutes ago @mich_in_Colo They're up vs a killer chart. Hopefully FA can ride out the crushing traffic. If not, think the new CEO will try once more. I doubt it will ride our the traffic. But..... Maybe there is hope for a 2nd single!!! I think the new CEO selection might happen soon. There's a lot of talk about it and it seems to be narrowed down to one person.

From what I can tell there are quite a few artists advertised this way so it may not be a bad thing. It just stings a little to see this when the label leaves him out of promo ads in publications being marketed to radio PDs.
