Here is my un-popular opinion : It's about Hold On . While I think Casey's vocals are powerful in the song & have a good story lyrics . I think the song is more in the cheezy / generic side . The song is the type of songs that released like a promotional singles ( i-Tunes only singles , between two albums ) it'll be really great for that or even a charitable single ( for i-Tunes only too ) . Plus , that type of Sugarland songs failed commercially & even critically , I hope Casey collaborated with Kristian on something like Sugarland fast rockin' songs , because that style is incredibly catchy . Kristian & Jen. are amazing song-writers with that type of music . Don't get me wrong I like it , but it's not wow-amazing . Oh I agree again, darn perhaps we need more real unpopular opinions. Hold On is very cheesy to me. It is more like a Sugarland song then a Casey song. I think people are just terrible sentimental over the song or something. You are right it would be perfect for a charity single or something. I dont even think the song should make the album. And truthfully I actually think Casey stretches his vocals much more on So Sweet. The first time I heard it I was actually surprised to hear Casey sing that high. In fact after thinking about it a bit, it might be the reason why he likes So Sweet that much. I mean it isn't a song with a lot of guitar and the whole thing is much more pop then usual. So my guess is he might feel proud of the song because he really stretches himself vocally. Man, I would have to come up with some real unpopular opinion. So okay here it goes. I dont want Casey to do anymore sweet sappy love songs, I already zoned out when I heard Undone was of that similar theme. We already have So sweet, I lied , She's money and Undone. I like I lied and She money and So sweet is okay, but please no more. By the rate Casey is writing these song you would swear he has met the women of his dreams or something. (To be fair perhaps he has and we just dont know it). How about some songs about pain, cheating (isn't that a popular country theme?), revenge or anger.

SOOOO agree re Hold On (w/Christian) - PLEASE say it won't be on his album, such a mistake IMO. Nothing against Casey's performance, strong voice, invested himself emotionally, but man!....
The thing I love about Hold On Im Comin' is the jazzy spin Casey put on it. The EH-Eh-EEH! and head-bobbin' just took it to a new place for me from the original - the thing that Casey does so well with covers.

Speaking of covers! here is something I think it's un-popular . While I'm a big fan of Casey's covers' choices & he always amazes me , I'm now on a stage & ready for a full concert of Casey's originals . of course it would be nice to hear a cover from time to time , something refreshing! but I'm ready for that stage now ...

Not that I-and-love-songs are ying & yang but as for what Casey has released so far, love songs are definitely a majority. I won't run down statistics but I believe only 3 songs are upbeat: Drive, DMUMM & She's Money. I can't classify Bulletproof - it's honky tonk yeah? Ok 4.
Don't get me wrong though. He's definitely shown variety (if he hasn't, I don't think I'll stick around heh) so all is good. We just need a few more serving of block rockin' beats!

My very unpopular opinion has to do with Hold On too.
I like it. A lot. <--- No, that's not the unpopular opinion.
But I think he needs to go darker with his vocals. It needs to be desperate. A prayer said on the way through hell. I want to hear pain and fear and the final, ragged shred of sanity in his voice until maybe the last couple of lines. A blind man crawling from one touchstone to another until he finally finds the edge of the inferno.
He's hiding a bit when he sings it and that makes it seem trite. <--- Unpopular opinion.
It's as if he doesn't trust what he's singing, but you can't make a very convincing case for faith with half-measures. He needs to give himself up to the song or drop it from his repetoire. And I really, really don't want him to drop it.

^^ Maybe that's the case! IDK! but my un-popular opinion has to do with the lyrics more than with his singing !

Drew , I'll add You Need Some Texas to the fast up-tempo songs . So we have 5 out of 13 , not bad !

Possibly the reason why he doesn't sound convincing. The lyrics briefly touch on tragedy then on to resolution - doesn't give the listener time to appreciate the intensity of the struggle. Lyrics need some re-tooling, IMO.

I think a way to do that would be to take away the band and do it acoustically. Drew , I'll add You Need Some Texas to the fast up-tempo songs . So we have 5 out of 13 , not bad ! I would have liked for that ratio to be more along the lines 10 out of 13. ;D

Ok so here we go...
I know how zillions adored Jealous Guy. And if you know me too well, you'd know I'm a Beatlemaniac. So Casey doing Lennon was a "wait what no f way!" moment for me.
I really dig the live version. Goosebumps - check. Magical - check. Pure artistry - check. Except for a bit of fall when he does the "oh wo ho" part, it is flawless overall.
But... the studio version on the other hand. I don't know Something about it I'm not a fan of. It sounds like Casey's mic is too close to his mouth or whatnot. I feel bad cos I hafta love it by default. It just doesn't justify the live version.
Other than that, I love the other studio versions. Mrs. Robinson... ack my iPod ached on this one. Listened to it like 50x/day drew, what do you think of Casey's studio recording of Don't Stop Thinking About Tomorrow. I love it!

I thought he brought something new to his performance of this song that I really liked, maybe not quite to the extent you'd like to see, but he really takes the song to an emotional height that I found to be very moving. When I first heard the song, I thought the lyrics were kind of trite, mostly because of the commonly used phrase "Hold On," not necessarily because of the other words. But the theme is something that everyone can relate to, whether it's been used in the past or not.
